Books: 'The Siege' by Ben Macintyre
I just finished reading The Siege: A Six-Day Hostage Crisis and the Daring Special-Forces Operation That Shocked the World by Ben Macintyre.
In 1980, Iranian rebels attacked the Iranian embassy in London, taking more than two dozen hostages and threatening to kill them all if police attempted to enter.
Macintyre recounts the true story of the six-day siege from a variety of perspectives. From hostages’ evolving Stockholm Syndrome and police negotiators’ lives-in-the-balance pressures, to SAS special forces’ planning, preparation, and execution, Macintyre produces a real-life story that reads like a thriller novel.
I enjoyed it very much, and agree with Goodreads current 4.42 average rating. I’ve read many of Ben Macintyre’s books and can recommend them all.
